The John Woodcock Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the team gaining the highest overall points score in the three relays.

JAngela and John with their Grandchildren ohn Woodcock worked for 18 years as Bradford’s Athletics Development Officer. During this time, John established the Bradford Athletics Development Scheme which aims to develop local athletics talent, helping athletes to achieve their goals. He also set up many other development schemes that introduced tens of thousands of Bradfordites to the sport of athletics.

He was an inspiring coach, with athletes in his care achieving County, North of England and English Schools Championship titles. He also helped ten local athletes achieve international honours for Great Britain.
He trained countless coaches, teachers, officials and volunteers many of whom are still working to enhance the sport today and into the future.
John Woodcock
In recent years, supported by Bradford City Council, John did some commendable work with children in Turkey following the terrible earthquake disasters before spending two further years giving outstanding service as a coaching volunteer in Malawi.

Many sports people, whether they be athletes, coaches, teachers or club helpers, remember John as a fun, knowledgeable, straight talking Welshman who adopted Bradford as his home and who will be impossible to replace. He was a wonderful influence on the lives of countless people and is sadly missed.

Today we are proud to be joined by his wife, Angela, who will present a trophy to the overall winners, in his memory.
